Are You Tired of the Revolving Door at Your Company?
Updated: May 17
Based on Gallup’s largest global study of the future of work, only 27% of employees strongly believe in their company’s values. This disconnect has a negative impact on everything. And they mean everything, from attracting top talent to keeping superstars. If you’re tired of the revolving door at your company, take note of these tips you can implement today:
Articulate your purpose and values: If your mission is not clear and your values are non-existent, take the time to make that happen. And we don’t mean one 8-hour session. Engage your employees in the process and try your mission and values on for size, comfort and durability over the course of a few months before they are finalized.
Get your mission and values off the wall: We walk into offices with beautiful murals of values, but we question if they are really being applied to everything being done. From hiring the best talent to running weekly meetings. From employee feedback sessions to annual retreats. Make sure that all of your employees know what you stand for.
Walk Your Talk: As a leader, are your actions and behaviors supporting your values. If Honesty is a value, are you honest about everything? If Teamwork is a value, does your compensation program support teamwork? If Development is a value, are you providing your employees opportunities to get trained?
Here's one more statistic to share with your colleagues: According to Gallup, 71% of Millennials who strongly agree that they know what their organization stands for and what makes it different from its competitors say they plan to stay with their company for at least one year. That number falls to 30% for Millennials who strongly disagree.
