How to Make 2020 Your Most Successful Year Ever
The year is winding down, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Below are three important things you can do to jumpstart 2020. These strategies will even help you end the year strong by assessing what you’re doing well and what you can be doing differently. Make time to:
1. Reassess Your Culture - Did your culture help you reach your goals so far in 2019? Creating a culture that values employees' ideas and hard work, that promotes collaboration, and that treats people like humans ensures that you attract and keep the best talent. Make sure your core values are in place and not just “on the wall.” Incorporate the actions and behaviors that support your values into everything you do, from hiring and on-boarding, to day-to-day feedback and group meetings, and even exit interviews.
2. Set Your Goals for 2020 - Did you reach your goals for 2019? Why or why not? Make your goals S.M.A.R.T. (Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic and Time-framed) and put an action plan in place that you and your team follow weekly. Meet quarterly with each team member to make sure they’re on track and continually identify what you can do to support them to reach their goals and ultimately your team and company goals.
3. Provide Your Leaders Tools and Support - A company is only as good as an employee’s immediate supervisor. People leave their bosses, not companies. Managers matter. Make leadership development and support a high priority. If you’re struggling with turnover and employee engagement, provide your leaders the skills and continued tools and coaching they need to communicate, handle difficult conversations, delegate and execute on your culture and goals.
We understand feeling stressed and under a time crunch these last several days of 2019. If you take the time to do #1 and #2 and schedule #3 for the beginning of 2020, you and your employees will feel a sense of accomplishment this time next year and will have a lot more fun getting there.
